They told me that I wasn’t going to like the weather in Seattle. They told me so frequently and with such absolute assurance, in fact, that I started to believe them. I told them I liked the rain and they said you say that now. And I guess technically it hasn’t been a full year yet, and I’ve been told that the winter was mild, and there could be levels of heretofore unknown dampness lying ahead, but I’m here to report that I do, in fact, like the rain. I like the sounds it makes and the smell of wet earth. I like the shy way that the sun makes an appearance in between squalls. I like the pissed-off color of the clouds right before it really comes down. I like the birds dipping their wings in the puddles. I especially like staying in and putting this song on the stereo and not feeling like I should be doing a single other thing.
