TUNES // Divino Niño – Quiero
Post by Misha
Quiero is like a dream of summer. The details are hazy but the sun and sand and sunset horizon are all there. I can imagine it being written in the dead of bitter Chicago winter (where Divino Niño call home) like a talisman to hold in one’s palm until the days begin to lengthen and the ground stops sending icy shocks up through the soles of your shoes.
As I was listening I found myself thinking of summer in a very wistful way, until I remembered suddenly that it is summer. Right now, where I am, in Los Angeles, it’s 85 degrees and there are palm trees outside my window. But this is the version of summer that is all sweat and stickiness, though; there’s none of the escapist relief of this song. The kind of summer I’m thinking about can only exist for a few hours a couple days a year. Really, it’s not much more than a moment. Where the world is in between inhales and everyone is laughing and stretching their legs in the grass at once.
And then for the rest of the year we search for it, and sometimes find it in a funky bass line or 80s synths. That’s what summer is, I think. It’s just the coolest thing.
