TUNES // Rose Dorn – Shaking
Post by Misha
Drenched and sun sick, it feels like coming in coasting downhill at the middle of the story, when the car is going fast into the sunset, towards the ocean, with no plans of braking. There is this catch in the chest of ramping up for things to get a little out of control but still safe, still in the iridescent light of summer’s bubble. But then as suddenly as it began the road dips up again and here we are in the afterglow of acceleration, with a voice clear and high as California sunshine guiding us gently, a little mournfully, out of danger.
I love when songs know how to do this – how to speed up and slow down without turning into something different. It seems very difficult, and therefore perhaps a little risky, and this one pulls it off so well.
It goes from being a moment to a ride. The highs and lows are palpable and felt through the body like elevation change. Goes from being the thing to the memory of the thing in the space between metronome clicks. It is the thrill and it is also motion sickness. It’s the cheesy TV romance kiss and also the moment after the television goes black.
Rose Dorn‘s new album, Days You Were Leaving, is coming out August 23rd on Bar/None Records. Preorder here. If you like this one, check out Rose Dorn’s brand new single, Champ. The video just released today, watch it below!
