PREMIERE // Sea Grapes – Chasing My Tail
Post by Misha
‘Chasing My Tail’ opens over the trickle of a quiet stream, a sound so soft and pure you can almost feel it on your face. This is the first single from Sea Grapes’s upcoming album, a collection of songs centered around the loss of faith and other heartbreaks. Luke Janke, the artist behind Sea Grapes, cites nature as a source of solace when working through his grief and it’s easy to hear it in this song.
Behind closed eyes, the ambling rhythm becomes a walk along a narrow path down to the beach. Picking a way through a once well trodden, now overgrown path to solitude, catching pant legs here and there on the brambles.
But then it opens up and the beach is empty and the water is clear and cold, slipping over stones and through fingers on its way to cross borders and fight through dams and find the sea. My eyes are still closed and I’m thinking about how much the lyric “trying not to put my faith in a paradise” sounds like “trying not to put my faith in a pair of dice” and how it works really well either way.
I hope you find a place to recharge today and a song that helps you do that. And if you’re still searching, ‘Chasing My Tail’ is a really nice place to start.
Chasing My Tail will be released as a single (along with a remix by Heart Eyes) on cassette via Community Radio Tapes. The full album, Separation of Church & State comes out June 27. You can order both here on Community Radio Tapes’s Bandcamp.
