EP // Fairy Godmother – Spit It Out
Post by Misha
I first heard Fairy Godmother earlier this year when I stumbled upon Attic Space, their first EP. I was struck by apropos it all was, because that collection of songs is like finding something magical in a dark corner of the attic where you had only come to cry. It’s whimsical, dreamy, soft.
Fairy Godmother’s newest EP emerges from that dimly lit space, with its safe low ceilings, into a harsh daylight which again perfectly illuminates the pathos of the EP’s well-chosen title, Spit It Out. It is a volcanic bursting after a long period of restrained dormancy. Bubbling resentment. Memories burned with the acid of hindsight. Expulsion followed by (what else) painful vacancy.
Alyssa Thomas, the woman behind Fairy Godmother, shared with us her vision of these songs and the scenes they evoke for her in a series of watercolor sketches; they are little rain streaked windows into a world which is lovely and cold, and very solitary, but which contains just the perfect amount of softness for growing love again. Get lost in the EP below.
Invited
swirling moonlight. the feeling of spinning home. yes, alone.
Happy Man
upside down on the couch again. why not. last time i came up for air you still weren’t home yet.
Rock Star
love letter to a chaotic heart. don’t worry, your edges can be soft here.
Take Me
let’s go to that place that sits on my tongue like candy. it’s melting. please.
Goodbye
this one’s pretty self explanatory. how do synchronized swimmers take their bow?
