TUNES // Cigarettes After Sex – Affection
I was introduced to Cigarettes After Sex last night when they opened for Garbage at Hollywood Forever Cemetary and although I’m not sure who decided that their whispery late-night pop would be a logical pairing for the high energy alt-rock legends they preceded, somehow it worked. Mostly, I’m just so happy they came into my life.
On their Facebook page, Cigarettes After Sex list their genre as “slow motion,” a description which pretty perfectly captures the lost-in-time sensation of listening to their music. Affection is a languid tune about drinking too much and thinking about someone you love. It’s sad and warm and familiar.
At the show, frontman Greg Gonzales said that the group is working on an album for us. Here’s hoping that happens soon. In the meantime, check out their EPs on Bandcamp.
They have a European tour coming up – peep dates here.
