Following a stellar collab album with Sango earlier this year, Xavier Omär (formerly SPZRKT) is back in full force on his solo debut, The Everlasting Wave. The 8-track EP, which came out last week on Never Sleep Music, is a triumphant and vulnerable tour de force. Its songs celebrate women, love, and respect – though heartbreak and anger make appearances as well.
With lyrics like, “I’m gonna take my time with your mind, your ambition won’t leave me alone / tell me ’bout your dreams, tell me everything, don’t nobody care about your heart like I do,” it’s easy to fall in love with Everlasting Wave’s lead track, Blind Man. The silky soft production doesn’t hurt, either. It’s a perfect introduction to Omär’s dreamy R&B.
