The lovely Schtum (originating from the German word for ‘silent’) came together during a hiatus from rehearsals while Lunacre’s drummer was away. “Not wanting to stall,” explains lead singer Ben de Vries, “we decided to create a Frankenstein’s monster of a percussion part by chopping up drum takes from other songs before playing along on pots and pans.” The result is an eerie and enchanting tune evocative of Bibio’s whimsical sound. Lyrically, the song is about trying to make sense of the past whilst single handedly juggling with a future paved with anxiety and lessons to be learned – themes that, I’m guessing, resonate pretty deeply with us all.
Look for an EP from Lunacre out soon!
