Bishop Briggs has one of those immediately arresting sounds, the kind that makes you stop and close your eyes. Partly it’s the tender power in her voice, heartrendingly restrained in verses and swelling cathartically to the chorus. Partly it’s the punch she packs with a little more than a few handclaps, simple guitar melody, and a healthy low end. I don’t know if future-blues is a thing, but that’s what I want to call this.
Bishop Briggs has had a busy year. Following the online success of her attention-grabbing first single, River, she went on the road with Coldplay and Alessia Cara. Be Your Love is yet another promising move from the young rising artist.
